Parrot Diet Suggestions...
I know I write about birds a lot, sorry. They are rather misunderstood and generally poorly kept. I always feel it's my job to share. Here is whay I feed our birds daily.
Chick Peas, Lentils, split peas, Cabbage, Sweet Potato, Carrot, bok choy, yellow squash, zuccini squash, butternut squash, green apple, orange, Kale, Collard greens, mango, whole wheat pasta, frozen peas (with NO sodium), banana, grapes, and papaya.
The Eclectus don't get pasta, and we add a frozen fruit mix to their food which includes blue berries, strawberries, and rasberries
This is offered once daily. Eclectus get more fruit, Cockatoos get no protein and only a little apple added, and Macaws get Tofu and nuts added. We add Flax Seed oil to the entire mix.

Each bird has 3 bowls in their cage. 1 water, 2 fresh food, 3 pellet.
(except The Dusky Pionus who gets a seed mix instead of pellet) You aren't supposed to give Pionus Pellets.
All pellet is Harrisons brand and species specific. To answer your question... about $300 a month to feed all our birds. (But I live with A LOT of birds)

That is a running joke around here. The parrots eat better than we do! I started adding fresh foods years ago, and as I develop a better grasp of their nutritinal needs I add or remove ingredients. Now if I could just pay that much attenton to my own diet and health Smile

I know my birds eat way better than I do, they get a lot of greens and sprouts, fruits on kaboobs. They get just a little seed every couple days and a treat stick every couple weeks. My budgies can strip a treat stick in an hour.Tongue

I'm sure they do an awsome job of plowing through a treat stick! Smile I have some finches that really enjoy treat sticks. Sprouts are great as well, although due to the lack of humidity over the winter I don't feed sprouts. (I can't sprout them with the air as dry as it is right now). I usually sprout all beans. During the winter I only feed the easily digestable beans so I can cook them instead of sprouting. Garbonzo beans and lentils are safe. The rest of the year I buy all kinds of beens and sprout them. Sounds like you take good care of your birds! Big Grin

I try to do the best for the flock around here, I even keep the outside birds well fed. I like all animals, but I think birds are the best. My kids really enjoy taking the cockatiel to school for so and tell, the Quaker will be going next week for her day with the kids.

LOl does the school really allow you to bring a bird for show and tell? I wish I could have brought my pet to school when I was a little kid.

different fruits and seeds as they ripen month by month. Pre-packaged parrot food is certainly another valid option. It takes the guesswork out of feeding your bird a wide variety of balanced nutrition. As with most pets, avoid feeding your parrot caffeine, alcohol, chocolate and salty foods.

The fruits are rich in sugar and spoil easily, so they are not as important as fresh vegetables. They also attract flies and ants. Avoid strawberries unless they are certified organic pesticides.Try due to bad of a fruit or vegetable wash if you can not get organically grown vegetables and fruits.
