Treating bird skin
Rough spots on parrot feet?... Silvadene cream
Burn on a parrot?... Silvadene cream
Little growth on cockatoo feet?... Silvadene Cream
Sore spots on bird feet?... Silvadene Cream

Silvadene Cream is a human burn ointment. When I take a bird to the vet I just ask the vet to call in a prescription to my local pharmacy. It works mirracles on bird feet. Rescue parrots are often found with sores on their feet from living on one size perch, and this ointment works wonders on their feet. We just rub the lotion onto the feet, it softens them a bit and relieves the pain.

RE: Treating bird skin
You should be able to use any cream that is water base and not patroleum.patroleum base will get on the feathers and become a mess.
I use a product from my vet its Novasan humilac(excuse my spelling, but it does wonders, and also there is aloe vera juice mixed with warm water that also helps.
but will check out this product with my vet that you have mentioned....donna

RE: Treating bird skin
Never use grease, ointment or butter on a burn. These products insulate the skin, causing its temperature to rise and increase the pain factor.A bird’s skin is much thinner and delicate than our skin.Just flush the wounds with hydrogen peroxide, iodine
or betadine.

RE: Treating bird skin
trim the oil gland at the base of tail out and flesh between the tail feathers good. You should probably skin the wings down to atleast the elbow joint and get the meat off the bones. Then either rub an even mix of salt/borax or straight borax like Chesapeake mentioned into the skin.

RE: Treating bird skin
Thanks for letting us know what you know. Who would have figured it out that a human burn ointment could be used to treat rough spots on birds? It indeed an awesome finding you have here. if you have discovered anything else, you probably should let us know as it could help us solve a lot more problems that we are actually facing. I believe that now there is a cure for my cute little birdie.
